North Valley School
Willow Creek residents are offered a variety of educational opportunities at North Valley School, an accredited non-public special education school.
North Valley School’s mission is to provide a successful, comprehensive, and therapeutic educational program.
The students’ needs are met through a curriculum of structured behavioral programs based on effective praise. NVS provides a high staff to student ratio with one-to-one staff capability. Educational services are provided in conjunction with an individualized behavior modification program. The school environment is enhanced by a certified Day Treatment Program. Day Treatment services include licensed clinical staff that provide individual, group and family therapy. The clinical staff also acts as case managers to provide each client with individual and intensive planning for successful transitional and community living.
North Valley School strives to function as closely as possible to a public school. As a WASC accredited school, we have the capacity to render high school diplomas and certificates of completion. Our Deaf students are placed in full signing class rooms with fluent signing hearing and deaf teachers. Our teachers are credentialed and teach the required courses with state approved curriculums for the deaf and for hearing students. They teach English, Language Arts, Humanities, Science, and Social Studies. Electives provided by teachers include Yoga, woodshop, ceramics, Independent Living Skills, Physical Education, Student Council, German, American Sign Language, Remedial reading, Cooking, Public Speaking, Drama, and more. These electives are interpreted by certified interpreters for the deaf or run by the fluent signing staff themselves. Speech and Language Therapy is also available by a certified and signing therapist as required and requested by the IEP team. Workability programs are also available to train students job skills both on and off grounds.
