The English Department Writing Centers on the Santa Rosa and Petaluma campuses provide free writing tutorial services and computer/printer use to all registered SRJC students. Tutorial assistance is provided by English department faculty and instructional assistants. Instructors work with students on the full range of the elements of composition, including brainstorming, thesis development, essay organization, paragraphing, topic sentences, style, clarity, coherence, MLA documentation format, research techniques, mechanics, grammar and punctuation.

The Santa Rosa Campus Writing Center is located in 1629 Emeritus Hall. The lab has 18 iMac G4 computers and 1 pc available for student use. All computers have usb ports for use with flash drives. Students may print up to 10 pages free of charge.

The SRJC Online Writing Lab offers self-paced, structured lessons to help students build sentence-level grammatical skills and mechanics, write clear sentences, develop strong paragraphs, develop an essay, and use research skills and documentation techniques. Each lesson includes quizzes that students may complete and go over with lab faculty or staff. Lessons also include links to learning resources, an in-depth lesson, and an explanation of how the skill is valuable in real writing situations.
